Actually, I’ve gone a few times, and I’ll probably go many more. Muir Woods definitely falls in my top 5 out of the top 10 among the top 25 places to visit when you’re in the Bay Area. What makes Muir Woods so awesome? No matter when you visit, you’re always guaranteed two things:
- Giant trees
- Shade
Photos really can’t do the giant redwoods justice. It’s not until you’re standing among them that you realize how big they are and how small you are. With an average age between 600 and 800 years old, it’s hard to even imagine what the world was like when these trees first sprouted.
Walking through the woods is relaxing to say the least. It’s nice to take a break from the city life every once in awhile, and this has become one of my favorite places to go. It’s great because once you get there, you’re never in a rush to leave. Something about this place just makes you stop and slow down.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Did you hear about those guys who cut down a tree to see how old it was and realized they had cut down the oldest tree in the world?
